Ghent on Sundays

I love Ghent on Sundays. Ok, waking up on a Sunday morning in Ghent is kind of hard. There are plenty of nice restaurants, with great food and even greater drinks. Still, an early Sunday morning visit is more than worth it. Start your promenade at Kraanlei. From here you can see the city center with distances no longer than 15 minute walks between two attractions. I love the atmosphere of the so called Friday Market. It's where locals hang out to have their coffee or something stronger. And to me it's the perfect spot to be out of the major tourist areas and to watch and meet people. The statue is always a meeting point for travelers and youngsters, and only last week that's where I met 3 Canadians performing the Belgian national hymn in what appeared to be a YouTube driven bet for a new car. They had to record themselves in 20 European countries singing the hymn , verified by a local , in 4 weeks time. Funny way to win yourself a new BMW but it works for them. But that's not really related to Sundays in Ghent. It's just a glimpse of MY last Sunday in Ghent.
