Ghent is a great shopping experience

If you're looking for huge malls,  4 storey surfwear stores,  and Disney like animation in front of every shop window...well Ghent is nothing like that. But it's an authentic European shopping experience you won't regret.  Think availability of all the major European brands for clothing, accessories, decoration. Add dozens of specialized small shops. And find charming pubs and tea-rooms in between those shops. 

The typical thing
The typical thing about Ghent is the concentration of all that within the historic city center. Everything is at walking distance, no need to carry your shopping bags over a long distance. That is, if you have chosen your hotel right in the heart of the city. 

Good to know

There is no real big mall culture in this part of the country.  Near Ghent South there's a small shopping mall for rainy days. The "Veldstraat" is the main axis and you'll find more refined boutiques 1 block away.  Most shops accept the major creditcards and are open between 10 am and 6 pm Mo-Sa.

On Sundays, shops are closed in Belgium.
