The easy city

Ghent is easy to cross without a rental car or any form of motorized transport. Due to its medieval structure, Ghent has everything within reach and you can actually see the whole city as an enthusiastic pedestrian.  The big shopping streets are pedestrian-friendly and there's plenty of alternatives in case you decide to stop walking.

Biking

In case you come by car consider bringing your bike. Cycling is quite popular in and around Ghent, and once you're out of the City you can discover some interesting landscapes. In the city,  biking is quite and adventure during rush hour but it's a great experience on a quiet Sunday morning.

Assisted transport

And of course, seeing Ghent from the water is the ultimate experiene. Quiet tours are available, or you can enjoy the classic : a guided tour showing you the highlights of medieval and nowadays Ghent.  Guides often have an impressive language skill so foreign visitors can enjoy this 50' history lesson and ask all the questions that pop into their head.
